Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico is estimated by Ward’s to have hit 355,974 units, up 0.8 percent from the 353,309 cars and trucks built the previous week.
Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 1,923,456 vehicles, down 1.6 percent from like-2004’s pace.
In the U.S., automakers are expected to have produced 264,244 vehicles last week, up 0.9 percent from the 261,781 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2005 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 1,434,822 units, down 1.3 percent compared to the 1,453,985 vehicles built in like-2004.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 53,287, a decrease of 8.4 percent from the 58,142 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar- 2005 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 311,185 units, down 2.1 percent compared to the 317,911 vehicles produced in like-2004.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 28.1 percent; Ford Motor Co., 24.9 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 15.0 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.9 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 7.4 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 6.9 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.0 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.1 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.7 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 2.2 percent; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.4 percent; and other manufacturers, 2.4 percent.
