Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 337,578 units, down from the 358,956 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 8,160,924 vehicles, up 3.4 percent from like-1999’s pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 236,544 vehicles during this Memorial Day week, a decrease of 9.9 percent from the 262,671 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 5,974,956 units, up 2.4 percent from the 5,835,841 vehicles built in like-1999.

This week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 64,635, a 15.0 percent increase from the 56,226 units assembled last week — a shortened workweek for many Canadian manufacturers due to the Victoria Day holiday. Estimated calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,412,871 units, up 2.3 percent from the 1,380,777 vehicles produced in like-1999.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.4 percent; Ford Motor Co., 30.4 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 15.3 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.6 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.9 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.7 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.3 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.5 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.3 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.1 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.5 percent; and other manufacturers, 2.4 percent.
