Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 378,178 units, up from the 345,785 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 14,390,963 vehicles, up 2.6 percent from like-1999’s pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 278,147 vehicles this week, an increase of 10.1 percent from the 252,521 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 10,473,199 units, up 0.9 percent from the 10,378,723 vehicles built in like- 1999.

This week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 47,307, a 7.9 percent decrease from the 51,348 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,387,887 units, down 0.9 percent compared to the 2,409,518 vehicles produced in like-1999.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 31.2 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 13.2 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.7 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.2 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.0 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.5 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.6 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.0 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.7 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.4 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.7 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.8 percent.
