Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 355,825 units, up 3.6% from the 343,346 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 1,571,127 vehicles, down 2.6% from like-2004’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 259,840 vehicles last week, up 2.3% from the 253,986 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2005 US vehicle output totals an estimated 1,168,984 units, down 2.1% compared to the 1,194,635 vehicles built in like-2004.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 57,886, an increase of 2.5% from the 56,454 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2005 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 258,424 units, down 3.6% compared to the 268,183 vehicles produced in like-2004.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 27.7%; Ford Motor Co., 24.6%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.8%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.6%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.7%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 8.2%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.0%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.1%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.7%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 2.2%; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.0%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; and other manufacturers, 2.7%.
