The last Saturn S-series, a red sedan, was built yesterday afternoon at Saturn’s Spring Hill, Tennessee factory. Following close behind was the first Ion, in satin blue metallic.

The two Spring Hill-built Ion models are completely redesigned and the first models on the new GM Delta platform.

The sedan is scheduled to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2002 with the “quad coupe” following in the first quarter of 2003.

The first S-series was built on July 31, 1990. Since then, Spring Hill has built 2.7 million sedans, coupes and wagons, as well as their 1.9 litre, four-cylinder engines with manual and automatic transmissions.
