Branded consumer packaged goods giant Sara Lee Corporation has announced that J.T. Battenberg III has been elected as its the fifteenth director, effective immediately.

Battenberg is chairman, CEO and president of Delphi Corporation, which he led through its 1999 spin-off from General Motors.
“J.T. Battenberg brings a wealth of strategy and policy-making expertise to Sara Lee’s board,” said C. Steven McMillan, chairman, president and CEO of the Chicago-based firm.
Throughout his career, Battenberg held numerous positions of increasing responsibility at General Motors and Delphi. He served as MD of the GM Continental Division in Belgium and as general manager of GM’s overseas truck operations in England. In 1988, he was named VP and group executive of the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Group, and in 1992, he became VP and group executive of GM’s Automotive Components Group (ACG) Worldwide. Two years later, he was elected a senior VP of GM and president of ACG Worldwide. In 1995, Battenberg was elected executive VP of GM and president of Delphi Automotive Systems. He also became a member of the GM President’s Council.
