Metaphase and Sherpa Customers Share Successes, Strategies for Production Success

SDRC (Nasdaq:SDRC), a global supplier of e-business collaboration solutions for the product lifecycle, today announced record attendance by Metaphase® and Sherpa® customers at its 2000 European PDM Users Forum in Rome, May 15-16. With the theme “PDM in an e-Business World,” the conference focused on the evolution from product data management (PDM) to product knowledge management (PKM), emphasizing the critical role product-related knowledge plays in any e-business strategy.

Rolls-Royce keynoted the event, discussing how Metaphase enables it to share information about complex products across dispersed sites and with its enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems; Renault overviewed its distributed Geometric Data Management system for handling engineering information. Other customer presentations included Tenovis, Michelin and Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace discussing their large-scale Metaphase implementations; Philips Medical Systems B.V. focusing on its task-based Metaphase user interface; Ericsson demonstrating how it maximizes Metaphase’s flexibility in a mobile internet environment; and United Distillers making the case for Metaphase in a fast-moving consumer goods business.

“This is a powerful forum for users to share insights and strategies for leveraging product knowledge,” said Bill Weyand, chairman and CEO, SDRC. “It’s exciting to hear how industry-leading, European based global companies are expanding their Metaphase implementations across the product lifecycle and across systems, for dramatic business gains in this fast-paced e-business economy.”

SDRC’s focus on product knowledge management included detailed Metaphase product presentations and an overview of its SLATE(TM) (System Level Automation Tool for Engineers) requirements management and systems engineering solution. SDRC also unveiled its new Accelis(TM) solution for collaborative product commerce (CPC). Accelis provides the e-business framework to exchange and leverage information among all participants in the global supply chain — companies and their suppliers, partners and customers. Accelis’ unique synergy with Metaphase garnered tremendous interest at the Users Forum, offering customers a fast-track solution for exchanging information among diverse systems, including Metaphase.
