Quality problems have hit yet another North American-built Ford product, according to the Detroit News.

The newspaper said Ford has halted production of its high-performance 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra due to quality concerns.
Ford Special Vehicle Team operations spokesman Alan Hall told the Detroit News that the company stopped building the limited-edition version of the Mustang about two weeks ago but would not specify the problems that led to the stoppage.
However, the newspaper reported, Hall said the problems have been fixed and that production at Ford’s Dearborn Assembly Plant will resume on November 12.
“It was something that was caught at the plant and it’s something that hopefully has been resolved,” Hall told the Detroit News adding: “It was part of our regular process to ensure quality.”

By GlobalDataThe Detroit News said that Ford recalled 5,300 1999 SVT Mustang Cobras in 1999 after admitting the vehicle’s engine did not produce its advertised 320 horsepower.
The recall came after Mustang Cobra owners complained of a shortfall of as much as 50 horsepower, the newspaper said, adding that Ford traced the power problem to the engine’s cast aluminium intake manifold and its exhaust system.
Hall told the Detroit news that the issues with the 2003 Mustang Cobra, which produces 390 horsepower, are not related to horsepower.
Ford still plans to build 12,000 Mustang Cobra coupes and convertibles this year, the Detroit News added.
Ford’s popular entry-level Focus sedan has been the subject of numerous recalls and the subject of several National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigations including a current one for alleged airbag problems.
The Escape small SUV also had a troubled launch about two years ago with several early recalls to fix minor quality glitches while Ford has also in the last two years recalled Explorer SUVs to replace millions of possibly faulty factory-installed Firestone tyres.
More recently, some redesigned 2002 model year Explorers were also recalled to check for production line-inflicted damage to their tyres.
