Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico is estimated by Ward’s at 334,966 units, down from the 348,655 cars and trucks built the previous week.
According to Ward’s Automotive Reports, calendar year North American output now totals 2,458,606 vehicles, up 0.2 percent from like-2002’s pace.
In the US, carmakers are estimated to have produced 243,056 vehicles last week, down 4.7 percent from the 255,088 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2003 US vehicle output totals an estimated 1,813,009 units, up 1.0 percent from the 1,795,078 vehicles built in like-2002.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 50,972, an 11.0 percent decrease from the 57,260 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2003 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 383,348 units, down 3.5 percent compared to the 397,151 vehicles produced in like-2002.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.7 percent; Ford Motor Co., 27.5 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.0 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.1 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.7 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.3 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.6 percent; Subaru Automotive Inc., 1.1 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.7 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.3 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.5 percent.
