Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) will show two new vehicles at the 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) [aka Detroit show] in January – the 2007 Eclipse Spyder and the Concept-CT MIEV.

The company, which some pundits think is showing signs of turning the corner after several disastrous years in the US, is building up its strongest model line in history, launching six new production vehicles in less than three years, including the 2006 Eclipse, Chrysler-built Raider mid-size pickup truck, and now the ’07 Eclipse Spyder (convertible).

MMNA posted sales up 3.1% year on year  to 8,953 units in November, according to WardsAuto.com data, though year to date sales were off 23.9% to 114,987. It is the only Japanese brand with sales lower than last year in the US.

“The Eclipse Spyder and the breakthrough Concept-CT continue the excitement of the brand and demonstrate new design directions and potential future technologies,” said MMNA president and CEO Rich Gilligan. “We are rebuilding our brand with products that consistently reinforce our commitment to being driven to thrill.”

The “world reveal” of the Concept-CT MIEV will showcase what MMNA calls “a design study in B-segment packaging” – a “city-technology” model that is a a desirable small car optimised for today’s needs.
