Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 346,962 units, down from the 352,560 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 6,144,369 vehicles, down 2.6% from like-2002’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 252,532 vehicles last week, down 1.7% from the 256,979 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2003 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 4,521,532 units, down 2.3% from the 4,629,064 vehicles built in like-2002.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 54,936, an 8.5% decrease from the 60,049 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2003 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 982,621 units, down 4.4% compared to the 1,027,859 vehicles produced in like-2002.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.7%; Ford Motor Co., 25.5%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.4%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.0%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.6%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.7%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.1%; Subaru Automotive Inc., 1.0%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.6%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.4%; and other manufacturers, 1.5%.
