Johnson Electric will launch North American production of automotive cooling fan modules (CFMs) in November at its newly renovated factory in Brownsville, Texas, supporting the growing demand for CFMs by North American carmakers.

The Texas factory joins existing CFM operations in Italy, France, UK, Spain, Brazil and China. The units are marketed under the Johnson Gate brand.
“Cooling fan modules are a growth market for Johnson Electric in North America,” said Johnson Electric, automotive motor group head Michael Degen.
Initially, several CFM models will be made at the Brownsville plant, which will have the capacity to assemble and test up to one million units annually. Electric motors to power the CFMs will be sourced from Johnson Electric in Hong Kong.
“The new plant will work in conjunction with Johnson Electric’s customer support centre in Michigan, to provide Tier Ones and OEMs with design engineering and product development services,” said Degen.
Johnson Electric’s Brownsville, Texas, plant currently produces components, including shafts and stampings, for assembly into motors at its Matamoros, Mexico, plant.
