4.6 installation builds foundation for future implementation of my mySAP.com(TM)

itelligence, formerly Schmidt-Vogel Consulting, USA, headquartered in Cincinnati, OH, recently announced they have begun Phase II of the SAP 4.6 installation for ZF Batavia. The 4.6 installation includes SAP Automotive(TM) Solution 2.0 and future plans on the installation of mySAP.com elements such as Workplace and B2B Procurement.

ZF Batavia will be one of the first automotive companies worldwide to install and use SAP Automotive Solution 2.0. This will enable ZF Batavia to apply automotive-specific Supply Chain Management features. Specifically, the installation of SAP Automotive Solution 2.0 will allow for more accurate production scheduling capability. ZF Batavia will utilize “Handling Unit Management” to minimize the effort required in handling materials and “Reporting” to track quality throughout the logistics cycle on a parts per million (PPM) basis to better identify where poor quality originates. Both itelligence and ZF Batavia plan to have Phase II completed by Fall 2000.

“We are excited that an automotive customer such as ZF Batavia is making the most of its SAP R/3 implementation. We’ve been working hard to find mySap.com solutions that will bring quicker access to more accurate and timely information–all of which will enable ZF Batavia to optimize its business decisions. ZF Batavia is truly on the cutting edge of SAP functionality in the automotive industry, and we are proud to be an integral part in this progression,” said Chuck Stahl, CEO, itelligence.

ZF Batavia has been utilizing Ford computer systems and needed to find a comprehensive system solution so it could become a stand-alone entity. To do so, ZF Batavia moved forward with the decision to use SAP. Majority owner, ZF AG, had selected SAP as its ERP solution several years ago. Its sister division in the United States, ZF North American Operations, has completed the implementation of SAP in all 12 of their facilities across the United States. The Phase I implementation for ZF Batavia went live in July 1999. As a part of its Phase I installation, ZF Batavia utilizes many SAP R/3 applications. The company decided to take advantage of SAP’s Application Hosting Program and now outsources all its hardware and basis support to EDS/Keysource. itelligence has been the implementation partner for all these installations.

About ZF Batavia

ZF Batavia is a joint venture formed between ZF AG of Germany and Ford Motor Company in January 1999. The facility was previously a Ford transmission manufacturing plant. The joint venture was formed in order to mass produce a new technology in transmissions called a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). While the final CVT development and capital acquisition of manufacturing equipment is taking place, the facility continues to build the transmissions they had been making while a Ford facility.

Plans are for the manufacture of these transmissions eventually to be phased out, leaving the facility dedicated to the production of CVT transmissions.
