Isuzu’s US arm is claiming its new General Motors-built i-280 and i-350 pickups offer buyers the longest powertrain limited warranty on any pickup truck sold in the US market for the 2006 model year.

Isuzu said its seven-year/75,000-mile powertrain limited warranty is from two to four years longer.

The three-year/50,000-mile basic “bumper-to-bumper” limited warranty offered by Isuzu is also 14,000 miles longer than the basic limited warranties provided by many rivals while the six-year/100,000-mile limited warranty against perforation from corrosion is one year longer than most.

Isuzu US sorely needs new products after recently phasing out an ageing line of Japanese-designed SUVs and pickups, some of which were made in a joint venture US plant with Subaru.

That manufacturing partnership is now dissolved and Isuzu sells a rebadged line of GM-designed and built pickup trucks and SUVs in the US.

For the January to July period this year, sales of just 10,921 units were down 45.1% year on year, according to WardsAuto.com data.
