The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) today introduced its new leadership team, and pledged that the revitalized organization would provide a strong voice on the major issues affecting the auto industry.
“AIAM is taking the fast lane, refocusing and revitalizing our role in the auto industry,” said Tim MacCarthy, the new AIAM President.

MacCarthy, formerly Vice President, Government Affairs for Nissan North America and a longtime executive with the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association, was named President and Chief Executive Officer of AIAM. “We are in the midst of thoughtful renewal,” MacCarthy said. He promised the trade group would be an active, innovative force for its members, which include Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Saab, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota and others.
“AIAM will be an independent, unique and respected voice for car makers – and a leader for progress in a new global economy,” MacCarthy said. “We are pro-free trade, pro-environment and pro-safety, reflecting the common vision of our member companies.”
The revitalization of AIAM will include advocacy on key issues and a constant management focus on organizational excellence. Key areas of interest will include international trade issues, leadership on safety and the environment, building a state-of-the-art technical information system for member companies, and partnering with the entire auto industry on issues of shared interest.
MacCarthy called his new position a great opportunity. “The AIAM has the opportunity to be a strong voice of progress in the auto industry benefiting both our members and the American public. And that voice is going to be heard,” he said.

Muller (President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru America Inc.); Secretary Daniel B. Chasins (President and Chief Operating Officer, Saab Cars USA Inc.); Treasurer Finbarr J. O’Neill (President and Chief Executive Officer, Hyundai Motor America).
“We have a strong team in place, and I’m delighted to have Tim MacCarthy, a well-respected voice in the industry and the Washington scene, leading our day to day operations,” Elliott said.
MacCarthy served as Vice President and Director of Government Affairs for Nissan North America from 1990 until 1999. Prior to that assignment, he was Director and Manager of the Federal Liaison Department for the Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Association. MacCarthy also was a Congressional staff member, and worked at the National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy is a current or former board member of nine organizations, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. An avid runner, fisherman, tennis player and golfer, he lives in McLean, Virginia.
AIAM, based in Arlington, VA, has served international auto makers doing business in the United States for more than 30 years.
