The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and Standards for Technology in Automotive Retail (STAR) have announced the signing of memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Japanese Automotive Manufacturers Association (JAMA), the Japanese Automotive Parts Industry Association (JAPIA) and ODETTE, a European automotive association, to build a global joint automotive data model (JADM) to standardise IT communications.

“The JADM will include a consistent set of international standards to ensure the seamless flow of electronic data to support business communication among trading and retail partners in the worldwide automotive supply chain.  This sharing of information will reduce cost, enable faster and more efficient implementations and eliminate waste within the manufacturing, supply chain and retail distribution segments of the automotive industry,” the organisations said in a statement.

“JADM will provide an internationally accepted solution set for internal and extended enterprise data communications that will minimise implementation and ongoing maintenance costs,” said AIAG executive director Scot Sharland.

By the first quarter of 2006, industry participants will be able to access the first version of the JADM through their respective organisations.

Founded in 1982, AIAG is a global organisation that addresses issues affecting the worldwide automotive supply chain.
