Automotive News reports that General Motors may extend its “Employee Discounts for Everyone” programme through July, citing remarks made by GM marketing chief Mark LaNeve.

“We’re biased to doing it because it has worked so well,” said LaNeve, GM’s vice president of North American sales, service and marketing. He said GM would make a decision near the program’s scheduled expiration date of July 5, after GM examines inventory levels.

Dealers have been asking that the program continue, he said, according to Automotive News.

The report notes that the programme has led to many conquest sales — customers trading in competitors’ products for GM vehicles.

Edmunds.com says that the scheme boosted GM’s US sales by a dramatic (forecast) 26 percent in June compared to June 2004 (or 21 percent when adjusted for the number of selling days).
