Ford will axe an entire shift at its assembly plant in Wixom, Michigan, next September, laying off 900 hourly and 80 salaried employees, reports from the US said.

The cuts will reduce the plant’s work force by 25%, according to Automotive News.

One of two shifts assembling the Lincoln Town Car, Continental and LS is getting the chop though two shifts building Ford Thunderbirds are unaffected.

Automotive News said this is the second round of plant layoffs announced last January as part of Ford’s restructuring plan.

The first layoffs affected 600 hourly and 30 salaried workers at the Ford’s Edison, New Jersey Ranger pickup truck plant, Automotive News added.
