Ford Motor Company announced late Thursday that it plans to cut second quarter North American assembly plant production to 980,000 vehicles compared with the 1.176 million vehicles built in Q2, 2002.

“Almost half of the year-to-year reduction in second quarter production reflects non-recurrence of last year’s planned growth in inventories. The remainder of the decline reflects capacity and product actions related to the company’s revitalisation plan, and reduced F-Series production during the launch of the all-new F-150 truck,” Ford said in a statement.

The company confirmed first quarter production of 1.035 million vehicles.
