Ford has increased cash rebates on two of its 2004 F-Series pickup truck models by $US500 to cut inventories of unsold vehicles, according to Reuters.

Consumers buying the F-150 regular cab pickup with no rear seat and the four-door SuperCrew version will get the extra cash until the end of the month, Ford spokesman David Reuter told the news agency.


Total cash rebates on the F-150 regular cab and SuperCrew trucks have been raised to $3,500 and $2,500 respectively, Reuter reportedly said.


Earlier this month, General Motors set the basic cash rebate on most of its 2004 model cars and trucks at $3,500 and $4,500 respectively, the report noted.


Both automakers have been struggling with aging vehicle lineups, which require more profit-eroding discounts to sell, Reuters added.
