Now things are getting really serious. Ford employees can no longer use company-owned pool vehicles for trips during the workday according to an AP report citing a memo to employees obtained by The Detroit News. Such a move could affect the car insurance rates of thousands of Ford workers.

The AP report suggests that the measure could be expected to save Ford about $4 million a year and improve its cash flow by $10 million.

Previously, Ford employees routinely checked out pool vehicles to travel between Ford’s offices, plants and other facilities during the working day.

The AP report suggests that they will now have to rely on limited shuttle services or use their personal vehicles; pool vehicles will be available for overnight business trips only.
