Expanding business opportunities with vehicle manufacturers is the objective of a new joint venture announced today between Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH) and Plastech Engineered Products, Inc., one of the largest minority-owned automotive interior and exterior trim components suppliers.
The venture, to be called Automotive Modular Concepts, L.L.C., is a strategic venture with Delphi’s Packard Electric Division to manufacture and supply vehicle power and signal distribution system assemblies. The venture will also pursue potential cockpit assembly business.
“This new alliance expands our minority supplier base and strengthens our ability to win new business,” said David R. Heilman, vice president, Delphi and president Delphi Packard Electric. “Plastech has a very strong business foundation and is capable of handling a diversified product mix. We look forward to growing together.”
Ford Motor Co. has awarded the joint venture the wiring business for a future vehicle. Delphi Packard Electric will act as the electrical/electronic systems integrator for the program.
“We believe that Automotive Modular Concepts will strengthen our ability to win business from Ford and other customers who are looking for minority suppliers with strong automotive expertise,” Heilman said.
Delphi owns 49 percent of Automotive Modular Concepts; Plastech owns 51 percent.
