In the first five months of 2000, Delphi sells approximately $2 billion in brake products
Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH) continues its trend of strong business bookings in its brake product lines. In the past five months, Delphi has captured 20 contracts from three customers, totaling approximately $2 billion over the contract term.
The contracts consist primarily of brake modules and also include Delphi’s advanced technology products, such as Traxxar(TM) stability enhancement system. Further, Delphi earned a contract for its new product, supplemental brake assist. This product assists the OEMs to meet FMVSS-135, a Federal regulation that requires vehicles to meet minimum brake stopping distance requirements.
“The specifics of the contracts remain confidential at the request of our customers,” said Guy C. Hachey, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems president. “These contracts reinforce that more and more customers are looking to Delphi for innovative braking technology. Automakers are interested in Delphi’s unique ability to integrate controlled braking, steering and suspension for vehicle safety as well as improved ride and handling.”
“One of Delphi’s strengths is our capability to bring innovative technology to the mass market,” Hachey said. “One of the most visible examples is the introduction of anti-lock brakes (ABS) as standard equipment on General Motors entry-level vehicles in the early 1990s. Our goal is to work with our customers to bring Traxxar and other stability enhancement products to consumers in the same way.”
Delphi offers a comprehensive line-up of brake products, including power brake modules, drum brakes, boosters and master cylinders, electric drum brakes, electric calipers and anti-lock brake controllers in both motor and solenoid-based configurations.

By GlobalData“Delphi is able to deliver what customers want and increasingly that has been integrated brake modules delivered in assembly sequence to the automaker’s assembly facility,” Hachey said.
Brake corner modules combine all the associated components that are typically found at each “corner” of the vehicle. The corner module concept can be used for both front and rear assemblies in drum or disk brake configurations.
“Delphi has significant experience in the automotive brake business,” Hachey said. “We pioneered the brake corner concept to improve product quality and reduce installation effort and have been a leading supplier of these modules to vehicle manufacturers worldwide since that time.”
