Delo 400 Becomes the Sole Leader in Meeting the Growing Need for a Singular Heavy Duty Technology Platform Worldwide

Chevron announced today that Delo 400 Multigrade is the first and only diesel engine oil to meet or exceed the engine test requirements for all three major global testing specifications in North America, Asia and Europe (API “CH-4+”, JASO DX-1 and ACEA E5 respectively).

Delo 400 is the same formulation no matter where it is purchased in the world. As a result, diesel engine customers for the first time will be able to streamline costs and inventories by purchasing a single oil for their Japanese, European and U.S. engines.

“Chevron continues to lead the industry in meeting the needs of our customers in an increasingly global marketplace,” stated Mike Dargento, Market Manager, Commercial Automotive, Chevron. “Delo 400’s unique performance advantage also enables our customers to standardize preventative maintenance operations worldwide, resulting in reduced costs, extended vehicle uptimes, better training and best practices. These benefits could not otherwise be realized without a lubricant whose performance demands are able to meet global specifications.”

Chevron markets Delo 400 multigrade in North and South America and Europe. In Asia, Australia, Eastern Africa and the Middle East Delo 400 is available through Caltex, a 50 percent Chevron owned joint venture of more than 60 years.

The diesel engine oil market is impacted by regulatory changes in emissions standards worldwide, requiring OEMs and oil suppliers to respectively alter diesel engine designs and upgrade existing lubrication formulas. These alterations add to any oil manufacturer’s challenge in producing products with universal market appeal. At the same time, the convergence of performance requirements from North America, Europe and recently Japan into discrete specifications supports the growing need of worldwide manufacturers for similar lubricant characteristics.

According to a 2000 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) paper (2000-01-1984), “Globally, emissions levels are being steadily lowered which in turn are influencing new heavy duty engine designs. Emissions reductions are leading to similar diesel engine design and control strategies worldwide. Similar diesel engine designs will require common lubricant performance and the need for a HD Global Technology platform.”

Evidence also shows that a world oil outperforms even the best regional oils. The SAE paper notes that “formulating a heavy duty diesel engine oil to meet a variety of worldwide lubrication requirements results in a more robust formulation, outperforming oils designed to meet only regional requirements.”

As the only oil to demonstrate documented engine performance in the United States (API “CH-4+”), Europe (ACEA E5), and on Japan’s proposed (JASO DX-1) specification, Chevron Delo 400 Multigrade is able to achieve a new worldwide standard for the industry, both in performance and value.

OEMs Now Able to Streamline Costs, Standardize Preventative

Maintenance Practices

Using Chevron Delo 400 oil, global OEMs and their international clients benefit from the following:

— Superior performance from a world oil

— Standardization on one product, regardless of diesel engine
type or location

— Streamlined costs and inventories

— Ability to standardize preventative maintenance operations
under one product, resulting in reduced costs, more efficient
training, extended vehicle uptimes, and streamlined/best
maintenance practices

“Delo 400’s unique performance advantages enable our customers to enjoy superior performance and value — all from a single oil,” continued Dargento. “These advantages also translate to stronger competitive advantages for our customers in a fierce global marketplace.”
