Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 325,270 units, up 40.5% from the 231,445 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 9,404,475 vehicles, down 1.6% from like-2003’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 243,824 vehicles last week, up 41.4% from the 172,383 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2004 US vehicle output totals an estimated 6,969,492 units, down 0.4% compared to the 6,996,234 vehicles built in like-2003.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 51,185, an increase of 49.2% from the 34,314 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2004 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,553,650 units, up 0.9% compared to the 1,539,474 vehicles produced in like-2003.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.7%; Ford Motor Co., 23.6%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 11.9%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.5%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 7.1%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 6.1%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.3%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.2%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.2%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.9%; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.2%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; and other manufacturers, 2.6%.
