Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 325,984 units, up 1.3% from the 321,730 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.


Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 10,036,656 vehicles, down 1.2% from like-2003’s pace.


In the U.S., automakers were expected to produce 237,342 vehicles last week, down 1.2% from the 240,142 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2004 US vehicle output totals an estimated 7,438,784 units, down 0.2% compared to the 7,452,951 vehicles built in like-2003.


Last week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 54,263, an increase of 1.2% from the 53,629 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2004 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,660,213 units, up 2.4% compared to the 1,621,888 vehicles produced in like-2003.


Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 31.7%; Ford Motor Co., 23.4%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 13.6%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.7%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 7.6%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 6.1%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.4%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.9%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.1%; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.1%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; and other manufacturers, 2.7%.
