Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 354,343 units, up from the 353,403 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 8,409,309 vehicles, up 5.2% from like-2001’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 262,125 vehicles last week, up 2.8% from the 254,919 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2002 US vehicle output totals an estimated 6,168,209 units, up 7.2% from the 5,752,393 vehicles built in like-2001.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 56,227, a 5.5% decrease from the 59,472 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2002 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,361,157 units, up 1.3% compared to the 1,343,580 vehicles produced in like-2001.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.0%; Ford Motor Co., 30.4%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 12.4%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.3%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.1%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.5%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.8%; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.1%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.6%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.7%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0%; and other manufacturers, 1.4%.
