Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 351,273 units, down from the 351,950 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 4,546,969 vehicles, up 1.4% from like-2002’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 253,825 vehicles last week, down 1.3% from the 257,261 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2003 US vehicle output totals an estimated 3,345,994 units, up 1.7% from the 3,288,927 vehicles built in like-2002.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 58,841, a 2.5% decrease from the 60,326 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2003 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 718,285 units, down 1.0% compared to the 725,595 vehicles produced in like-2002.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.6%; Ford Motor Co., 26.4%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.3%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.0%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.4%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.6%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.1%; Subaru Automotive Inc., 1.0%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.8%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.2%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.4%; and other manufacturers, 1.5%.
