BorgWarner is supplying the all-wheel drive transfer case to the new Ssangyong Kyron sport-utility vehicle. The Kyron replaces the Musso which debuted in the mid-‘90s and is scheduled to debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
Claimed benefits of the BorgWarner system include lightweight construction, which enhances fuel efficiency; helical gearing, which delivers quiet low-range operation; electromagnetic shift-on-the-fly, which provides engagement of all- wheel drive at highway speeds; and electric shift, which simplifies selection of transfer-case operating modes. A Morse TEC Hy-Vo chain provides quiet all-wheel drive operation.
