Collins & Aikman Corporation will close its Westland, Michigan, manufacturing facility in the first quarter of 2006.
Westland employs 250 employees making interior products, such as injection moulded hard trim and headliners, for a variety customers. The company intends to consolidate the plant operations into existing facilities including other operations in Michigan.
Further consolidation is expected as C&A evaluates its operations and implements a number of cost reduction and efficiency improvement initiatives aimed at creating a viable entity that could successfully emerge from the present Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Company officials met late last week with employees, customers and union officials to announce the planned closure.
