Automotive equipment supplier ArvinMeritor is to cut 1,850 jobs at 11 plants, or about 6% of its global work force, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The company reportedly would not specify where the cuts are being made or the plants are located but, in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, said the cuts primarily affect its light-vehicle segment, most of which is located outside the United States.

The company employees about 31,000 people at more than 120 plants in 25 countries, AP noted adding that, earlier this year, the Troy, Michigan-based supplier of shocks, struts, suspensions and exhaust systems announced the elimination of 400 to 500 salaried positions.

On Wednesday, the company said its restructuring plans would result in the reduction of an additional 300 salaried employees and 1,550 hourly employees at 11 plants targeted for closure or consolidation, the Associated Press said.
