Volkswagen is to recall about 790,000 vehicles in the US for faulty brake lights.
According to The Car Connection (TCC) website, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in a recall notice cited the company’s Jetta, Golf, GTI, R32, and New Beetle models in the recall, saying that these vehicles may have brake lights and switches that do not function properly, which could lead to an accident.
The models and years included in the recall are the 1998-2007 New Beetle; the 1999-2005 Jetta sedan (Bora in most other markets); the 1999-2006 Golf and GTI; the 2001-05 Jetta (Golf, Bora) wagon; the 2003-07 New Beetle Convertible; and the 2004 [Golf] R32.
