Volkswagen may continue to lose many in the US for a couple more years yet.
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, head of the Volkswagen brand in the US, Adrian Hallmark, said that because of the strong euro and the slowing of the US market, Volkswagen’s US operations may not return to profit until 2009.
Hallmark reportedly said that it is unlikely that Volkswagen of America will be profitable in 2007, and there are concerns that it will also not be profitable in 2008.
Volkswagen has previously said it would be profitable in the US by2008.
The impact of the euro could be offset to some extent if Volkswagen sources more cars from Mexico, rather than from Germany.
