Volkswagen and BMW have teamed up to set up around 100 EV charging stations along the west and east coasts of the US.

The new charging stations will be added to ChargePoint’s existing network and can be accessed by anyone with right payment cards or app.

Installations have already begun with the first location in San Diego county.

The companies plan to set up nearly 100 direct current fast charging stations in the first phase of the project. These stations, which are expected to become available by the end of 2015, will be located in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland on the west coast and along Interstate 95 on the east coast from Washington, DC to Boston.

These stations will be built at restaurants, shopping centres and rest stops and other convenient locations, PCMag reported.

Each station is expected to have one or two 50kW direct current fast chargers or 24kW direct current combo fast chargers compatible with Volkswagen and BMW EVs. The stations will also include level two chargers compatible with all EVs.
