Kia Motors America will call its new midsize SUV Borrego when it debuts in January at the Detroit motor show.
The Borrego will be manufactured in Korea and go on sale in North America and other markets in late spring or early summer of 2008 as a 2009 model.
Built with body-on-frame construction, the Borrego will be available with either a V6 petrol engine or Kia’s first V8 offering and will also boast the automaker’s largest towing capacity to date.
The Borrego is named after the bighorn sheep native to California’s largest desert state park. It is primarily designed for buyers in the USA and there are no plans to sell it in Europe, Kia Europe said on Tuesday.
