Vehicles exported to or assembled in Europe will be affected by Chrysler Group’s voluntary recall of about 268,800 mainly minivan models, a DaimlerChrysler spokeswoman told just-auto on Monday night.

However, she said that the exact models, numbers and affected markets had not yet been determined, though vehicles sold in the UK would be affected.

Dow Jones reported earlier that the DaimlerChrysler unit had notified the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it would voluntarily recall the 2005-2006 model year vehicles to replace the front windscreen wiper motor.

The vehicles include the Dodge Durango SUV and the Dodge Caravan,  Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans.

The minivans are assembled in Austria under the Chrysler Voyager brand name for both left-hand drive European markets and right-hand drive countries including the UK and Australia.

Chrysler said the wiper motor armature shaft may break, resulting in the loss of wiper function. DaimlerChrysler said no accidents or injuries have been reported as a result, according to Dow Jones.

The news agency said DaimlerChrysler also would recall 279 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab Dually pickup trucks to install cab clearance lamps to comply with federal regulations and 27 of its 2006 Jeep Liberty vehicles (Cherokee for export) to replace door latch reinforcement plates.
