TRW Automotive Holdings has expanded its joint venture Brakes India (BI), which claims to be the leading manufacturer of automotive and non-automotive braking systems and ferrous castings in the country.
TRW will now license slip control systems (SCS) technology to enable BI to manufacture and provide local engineering and development capability.
The US-based supplier’s sales and business development chief Peter Lake said: “[Our] longstanding relationship with BI has been extremely successful. At present [we export] complete ABS and electronic stability control (ESC or VSC) units to India, but this licence for SCS technology will allow for much greater presence and more effective customer support through BI.”
BI managing director S Viji added: “Environmental implications are impacting legislation and technology is adapting at record speed to keep pace. We are extremely excited about the positive impact which these technologies will have on the lives of the car driving public and are proud to be able to harness this technology and roll it out locally.”
Brakes India was formed as a joint venture between TRW and the TVS Sundram Group in 1962. It makes a range of foundation brake and actuation components in factories across the country.
