Toyota Motor will continue to offer large sales incentives in the United States in April to ensure its recovery in the world’s second largest market.
The sales promotions, featuring up to five years of interest-free loans and two years of free maintenance service, were introduced last month to help the company recover sales from a 12-year low in February due to massive recalls.
The incentives helped boost the automaker’s by over 40% year on year in March and the company decided to extend the promotions until 3 May, Toyota told Kyodo News.
Incentives will continue after 3 May but details were not yet finalised, the company added.
Earlier this week, the US government said it would fine Toyota $16.4m for hiding accelerator defects which led to recalls of millions of its popular models and tarnished the brand image.
A Toyota public relations official told Kyodo positive effects from the sales incentives were expected to continue in April, although sales might be hurt by the penalty.
