Toyota has announced it will build the Camry at Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries’ US plant in Lafayette, Indiana, according to Reuters.

Around 100,000 cars will be built at the plant each year. An investment of around $230m will be made in the plant.

The plant has excess capacity since the withdrawal of Fuji’s former joint venture partner, Isuzu. Toyota became Fuji Heavy’s largest shareholder in October 2005, after GM sold its stake in the company. Toyota now owns 8.7% of Fuji heavy.

In a further announcement the companies said they were also considering developing a hybrid vehicle for Fuji Heavy using Toyota’s hybrid system.
