Toyota Motor Sales said its new Prius Plug-in has been approved for California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program (CVRP). A US$1,500 rebate is offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
Designed to promote the use of zero emissions vehicles (ZEV) and related clean vehicle technologies, the CVRP is a consumer incentive made available in addition to the $2,500 federal tax credit offered for qualified vehicles.

The CVRP program offers rebates to individuals, business owners, non-profit groups, and government entities that purchase or lease new eligible zero-emission or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
These grants are available for vehicles either purchased or leased for 36 months or longer. The CVRP is funded by the state’s air resources board.
The plug-in has a new lithium-ion battery (standard Prius hybrids have nickel metal hydride) which boosts overall fuel economy and charges in 2.5-3 hours using a standard US domestic 120V outlet or 1.5 hours using a special 240V plug.
At launch, the plug-in will be available in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia, with national availability planned for 2013.
