Gulf States Toyota (GST) has chosen Temple, Texas, as the site for a new multi-million dollar vehicle processing centre.

The facility will be built in Temple’s rail park at Central Pointe with direct service from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe main rail yard.

The centre will be a central location for receiving, ‘accessorising’ and distributing Toyota and Scion vehicles in the five-state region of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi.

The first phase will consist of a 100-acre site with approximately 230,000sq ft of buildings employing 240 initially to process and ship around 100,000 vehicles a year.

Master planning will begin in early 2008, with ground-breaking scheduled in 2009. It will be GST’s second vehicle processing centre – its existing centre north of Houston is also being expanded.
