In light with the growing confidence in the US auto industry – despite a slight blip in economic data of late – General Motors’ decision to add a third shift at its Arlington Assembly plant will add an estimated 800 jobs to the plant producing the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukonand Cadillac Escalade.

The shift is expected to start in the first quarter of 2013 with additional staffing beginning in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Arlington Assembly currently employs around 2,500 hourly and salaried employees and operates two production shifts.

In 2011, the plant produced nearly 270,000 vehicles.
