Global IT company Satyam Computer Services is launching a development centre in Detroit which will focus on services to the automotive industry.
The facility, called the Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE), will employ over fifty engineers and develop automotive engineering, electronics, real time manufacturing, supply chain, automotive enterprise solutions and digital manufacturing.
Meanwhile, there are reports in India that Satyam, which provides IT and software solutions, has landed a contract worth US$150m with General Motors, commencing in March 2006 and lasting five years.
Satyam founder and chairman Ramalinga Raju said: “Traditionally, automotive and manufacturing sectors have been one of the early adopters of technology and we are seeing a rapid growth in this industry in the last few years.
“With service offering requirements centred around high-end and emerging technologies – the stronghold of Satyam, we feel it is the right time and location to enhance our focus in the automotive space where we already enjoy a strong leadership position.”
