North American shipments of original equipment automotive batteries in February rose 8.9% to 1,133,380 units from 1,040,707 units in January, a US industry group said on Monday.
The Battery Council International (BCI) said in a monthly report cited by Reuters that, year-on-year, shipments jumped 47.6% from 767,862 units in February 2009.
In the January-to-February period, original equipment battery shipments surged 52.85% to 2,174,087 units from 1,422,335 units shipped in the same period in 2009.
North American shipments of replacement automotive batteries plunged 24.48% in February from January, and were off 5.31% from year-ago levels.
February shipments declined to 6,735,650 units from 8,918,936 units in January. Furthermore, February shipments were down from the 7,113,500 units recorded in February 2009.
For the year through February, replacement battery shipments rose by 1.15% to 15,654,586 units from 15,476,185 units for the two-month cumulative total in 2009.
