Suzuki is to enter the US midsize pickup truck with a rebadged Frontier model built at Nissan’s manufacturing facility in Smyrna, Tennessee.
Suzuki supplies Nissan with minivehicles in Japan. In 2006, the pair announced an agreement to expand the scope of their business collaboration. The US pickup is part of that agreement, which also included the supply by Nissan to Suzuki of the Serena minivan in Japan.
Production of the pickup truck will begin in 2008.
Under a similar deal, Dodge builds a version of its Ram pickup for Mitsubishi to sell in North America and Chrysler will next year build versions of its minivan line for VW.
