Nissan North America announced the opening of a new 25,000 sq ft training centre in Irving, Texas, following an investment of US$2m.
The centre will help to double the number of technicians trained by the company, reported Star-Telegram.com.
The centre will train technicians from 13 states including Texas. The company expects the new facility to receive around 800-1,000 service personnel a year, inr sessions lasting four days, on the latest repair and diagnostic techniques.
Paul Badger, manager of business administration for the company’s training efforts, said, “Training was always important but, as automotive technology changes and improves, you’ve got to work to stay up with it.”
The Irving centre is the third of six that Nissan is building in major US markets over three years, as the company tries to replace over half of its 11 older centres.
Nissan previously had another facility in Irving but that could not handle as many technicians at once.
Paul Mathias, Nissan’s Southern California-based manager of training programmes, said, “In the old facility we couldn’t keep up with the demand.”
