The US NHTSA is investigating around 36,000 BMW Mini Cooper S after receiving complaints of engine fires, with extreme cases resulting in total vehicle loss.
Undr scrutiny are 2007-2008 Mini Cooper S hatchback, convertible and 2008 Clubman models.
The NHTSA received 12 complaints, eight of which said that fires occurred in parked vehicles, despite the ignition being turned off.
However, the fires have not resulted in any injuries or crashes, said the agency.
