Delphi Corporation has elected former auto and parts maker executive Martin Welch, 58, to its board of directors.
Welch is an executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) of United Rentals, an equipment rental company located in Greenwich, Connecticut. He will serve on Delphi’s audit committee and his election fills the vacancy created by the concurrent departure of Bernd Gottschalk.
Prior to becoming CFO of United Rentals in 2005, Welch served as director and business advisor to the private equity firm, York Management Services since 2002. From 1995 to 2001, Welch served as CFO for Kmart Corporation where he was instrumental in restructuring the company’s balance sheet and strengthening its financial operations. Welch also served as CFO for Federal-Mogul Corporation from 1991 to 1995 and held various finance positions at Chrysler Corporation from 1982 to 1991, including CFO for Chrysler Canada.
Welch began his career at Arthur Young (now Ernst & Young) in 1970.
