Speaking at the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA) annual convention, NADA chief economist, Paul Taylor, forecast that US light vehicle sales would fall to 16.8m units in 2006, down from 16.94m in 2005, according to Reuters.
He attributed the sales drop to higher interest rates.
He forecast crossover utility vehicles to be the big growth area, rising 15% in 2006, having already risen 14% in 2005. Most of these gains would be at the expense of truck-based SUVs.
