Mercedes-Benz is recalling 3,283 2008 S-class models in the US because of a faulty transistor.
“A malfunction may occur on the signal acquisition and actuation module” that controls some vehicle functions, including the centre console lighting, consumeraffairs.com reported, citing the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The transistors were improperly stored and exposed to excess humidity. “The presence of this moisture in combination with thermal stress…may damage the transistors and prevent them from properly functioning which will increase the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA said.
Dealers will inspect and replace the transistors free of charge when the recall begins in May, the report added.
